Songkran Festival

Thailand's most famous festival celebrates the Thai New Year. Prepare to join in the fun and get very wet or stay indoors! A loud, boisterous festival that features a lot of water throwing in the streets.

Turtle Releasing Festival
April 13
Part of the Thai New Year celebrations. Songkran Day has traditionally been a time for Thais to let free birds, fishes, tortoises and turtles, and this tradition has now become an opportunity to raise environmental awareness. Phuket Bike Week

Phuket International Cricket Sixes Tournament
April 19 - 22
2007 will mark the fourth annual Phuket Cricket Sixes Tournament. All of the participants had an absoltue ball in 2006 and 2007 promises to bring even more top international players to the island. Some of the big names from 2006 are: former Test cricket player Trevor Chappell (Australia) and greats Adam Hollioake and Alan Mullaly (England). The Phuket Sixes is fast becoming a major stop on the Asian cricket circuit.

Phuket International 10s Rugby Tournament

Don’t miss your chance to catch some live rough-and-tumble rugby action at Karon Beach, in the annual Phuket International Rugby 10s Tournament. This year's event has attracted 20 teams from around the world, each vying for the Clive Williamson Memorial Trophy.

Visakha Puja

This is the holiest of all the auspicious Buddhist religious days, marking the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha. All over the country, Thais visit the temples to listen to sermons by revered monks and make merit. Shortly after sunset, candlelit circumambulations take place around major temples.

Seafood Festival
May 2007
Seafood Festival, held around May yearly, is designed to publicise the delicious seafood of Phuket and attract visitors during the rainy season. Activities include a Marine Tourism Resources Parade, seafood stalls, demonstrations of regional cuisines and cultural shows.

Kalim Surfing Contest

The third annual Phuket Boardriders Kalim Beach Surf Competition was held on June 2nd and 3rd at Kalim reef on the north end of Patong Bay. Up to 48 local and visiting surfers took part in the event with prizes being awarded to the top 4 finishers.

2nd Phuket International Marathon
June 17
After the great success of the inaugural event more than 4,000 participants are expected to join the race with start and finish at Laguna Phuket.There will be a 2-Day expo where runners can pick-up their race kits and sponsors promote their products. The highly praised Pasta Party will be even bigger and better and runners can again expect a five star buffet prepared by Laguna Beach Resort.
Online registration will open on 1 October 2006 with early bird rates for all races until 30 April 2007. Accommodation specials presented by Go Thailand Tours are also available.

Khao Phansa and Arsanha Puja (Buddhist Lent)
July 29 - 30
Khao Phansa, or the Buddhist Lent, is the time when all Buddhist monks must stay in their temples. In Ubon Ratchathani, a unique festival is held each year that highlights the skills of talented local artisans as well as displays of religious devotion. Elaborately carved beeswax candles of various sizes and shapes are exhibited in high-spirited processions around the city before being presented to local temples.

Halal Food, Hilal Town Festival
July 2007
A celebration of Phuket's Muslim community, the Halal Food, Hilal Town festival takes place near Kokchanasuk in Thalang. Highlights include a display of products from all over southern Thailand, a history show by university students, a fashion show, a Quran reading contest, bird singing competitions, and many more activities.

The Queen's Birthday Celebrations
August 12
On the auspicious occasion of the royal birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, homes and public buildings throughout the Kingdom are decorated with glittering fairy lights as an expression of reverence and loyalty to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Around Bangkok, Ratchadamnoen Avenue, the area around the Grand Palace, and other historical landmarks and monuments are adorned with coloured lights and magnificent ornaments.

Por Tor Festival
August 22 - September 3
The "Hungry Ghosts" festival, an important merit-making event for ethnic Chinese. Special food, flowers and candles are presented to the ancestors' altars in order to feed the ghosts that have been released from hell for the month. Colorful cakes in the shape of turtles are made and put on display. Since turtles symbolize longevity, worshippers believe that making such an offering will help extend the length of their lives.

Phuket Surfing Contest

Claiming the distinction of being only the 5th surfing competition ever held in the Kingdom, the 2006 Phuket Surfing Contest has divisions for people – and boards – of all shapes and sizes. Vegetarian Festival

Celebrated by Phuket's Chinese community, this festival starts on the first day of the ninth Chinese lunar month (usually in October) and continues for 9 days. Lots of body piercing and strange processions of people under trances. Part of a cleansing ritual which involves many local residents. Excellent vegetarian food on sale in the streets., 2007

Patong Carnival (Phuket Carnival)

Loud and colourful. Lots of visual entertainment and fun for visitors. Each year is slightly different, but the festival includes a parade, shows and concerts. Bangla Rd is lit up and turned into a walking street with food stalls, stage shows and other entertainment. Marks the start of the official high season in Phuket.

Phuket Travel Fair

Phuket Travel Fair was first initiated in 1985 at Patong to welcome in the tourist season and designed to foster co-operation among tourism-related operators both in the private and public sectors. Many colourful and interesting activities are organised, such as merit-making in the morning, water sports contests, a Miss Visitor Contest, among others.

Loy Kratong or Full Moon Day

Held each year to venerate the river spirits with gifts of Krathongs. Made of banana leaves, and decorated with incense and candles, thousands of these beautiful boats light up the night as they float down rivers and canals, and across lakes and oceans, on the night of the full moon. Events held at all of Phuket's major beaches and in Phuket Town. A truly stunning event.

Phuket Soccer 7s

The 4th Annual Phuket Soccer 7s tournament looks to pack the pitch with a football flurry. A sporting-competition-slash-social-event, 40 teams from 10 countries struggle through 14-minute games, then relive the glory of the past afternoon in the nearby watering holes. Boasting zero prize money and none of that sticky offsides nonsense, this is guaranteed to be a fun battle for bragging rights.

British Business Association Charity Golf Tournament

Good fun for a good cause. Every year the British Business Association of Phuket (BBAP), in conjunction with Blue Canyon Country Club, holds a Golf Tournament to benefit Childwatch Phuket, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse in all its forms and assisting and educating underprivileged children. The tournament is open to all and it's a great chance to help out Phuket's youth while enjoying one of the finest golf courses in all of Asia.

Laguna Phuket Triathlon

Phuket Invitational Superyacht Rendezvous
